Indianapolis motor speedway Camping Information

Indianapolis MapThe Speedway offers parking in various lots scattered around the track for both cars, RV's and tent campers. The amenities are scarce and mainly just porta-lets for the tent campers.

RV's are not allowed in the infield of the Speedway unless you wish to purchase a special permit from the track for $4000. This is intended for race teams and drivers.

People will show up early to get a good spot across the street from the track where a concentration of action is. They will also try to find a nice spot under a shade tree. When it comes to showers, you're on your own.

Also try spots around the track. Parking between 2nd and 3rd turns at Speedway Industrial Park, 4400 W 10th Street, located between 10th and 16th street off of Polko St. Over 30 acres with tent and RV camping available. Race day parking only $10 for cars.

Wills take on camping at Indy!
Indianapolis is definitely a great track to camp at. Camping or not I always tend to find myself down on Goergetown street the night before the race. The police close off the street and it turns into one big party all night long. The Coke lot is right off of Georgetown and a great place ot walk to and crash for the night. Its also a great spot to cook out, hang with some good friends and relax. Expect to pay between $120 and $150.

You can also keep your eye out for other lots around that are also good and a first come first serve basis. The community around Indy are so welcoming of the rae fans and literally will open up their doors for us. You'll see almost every yard filled up with cars and tents, don't be shy walk up and see what their about.

You can contact the speedway for official campground information and pricing information. If you are going to wait until trace weekend to get your spot, you should be fine. There are plenty of spots for camping around the track.

Tribute to Jim Nabors - A Stirring of My Heart
By: Susan N. Beranek

When May arrives each year, for those of us who live in a part of the country that is not known for great weather most of the time, it is almost like we Hoosiers are let out of a cage. Spring is here, summer can not be far behind. And it also means that the (30 days of May) have arrived. When I was a much younger person, I started listening to the Indianapolis 500 each year on Memorial Day. The race was changed from Memorial Day to the Sunday, however, has no bearing on what the opening ceremonies mean to me, or the way they emotionally move me to tears...
